Synopsis

The Jungle Kingdoms are a peaceful collection of nations that, rather unusually, resolve their differences through the outcome of a strategic (and impossibly complex) game known as Kraku.

The Jungle Kingdoms cover a relatively small area on the shore of a massive super-continent. The Luuzians are predominantly concerned with spiritual matters and philosophy and, despite their curious natures, seem to have made very little progress towards mapping Luuz. This may - in part - be due to the extremely dangerous (and predominantly reptilian) native wildlife of Luuz. As such, much of Luuz remains unexplored and unsettled.

The Luuzians seem happy to share their new home world with non-Luuzians so long as the settlers respect, do not interfere with, and/or threaten, their lifestyle. Recently a number of Ælven pioneers have established settlements in Luuz, often being employed by the Luuzians to help map their world. There have been minor skirmishes between some of these settlers which has caused some ire amongst the native Luuzians, but the Luuzians have made it perfectly clear that they will not tolerate such behaviour, even offering to teach the newcomers Kraku so that they may resolve their differences like civilized beings.

Magic

Many Luuzians are Incarnates of Luuz.

A small minority of the inhabitants of the dimension Luuz have distanced themselves from mainstream Luuzian culture and worship of the god Luuz, and are instead attuned to what they call Zabishaa , which they believe to be the spirit of the world they inhabit. Their leaders are Naturalists; they rarely if ever leave the dimension and their powers work poorly elsewhere.

There are some Luuzian practitioners of Winding, the majority of whom excel at manipulating the Orange (Life) and Green (Nature) Winds. Many such Winders are dimensional travelers and spend some or most of their time in the 'Tween, but some remain in their home dimension as a matter of preference or lack of dimensional travelling capabilities.

It is extremely rare to find Luuzian practitioners of Necrotic or Daemonic arts, although some are rumoured to exist as outcasts eeking an existence outside of Luuz.

Details

  • Numerous martial art styles exists throughout Luuz, with monasteries of Luuz often practicing their own nuances and techniques. Some notable monasteries include:
    • Okima Monastery: This style is predominantly defensive and focuses on using quarterstaffs, spears and similar weapons in combat against multiple foes.
    • Akaken Monastery: This is a balanced style that focuses on identifying an opponents weaknesses and exploiting them.
    • Moto Monastery: Practitioners of this rather unusual style focus on divesting opponents of their weapons and then using the same weapons against them. Practitioners of this style are usually accorded much respect for they must be master of all weapons.
    • Kitazaki Monastery: Practitioners of this extremely rare style usually fight with smaller, single-handed weapons. They learn to observe and mimic an opponent, using their own strengths and abilities against them. Practitioners of Kitazaki have been known to employ magical or otherwise unnatural abilities against their foes, learnt from only a few minutes of observation. The Kitazaki Monastery is extremely secretive and it’s students are often hunted and persecuted by those who do not appreciate such talents.

Places of Interest

The various Kingdoms in the settled portion of Luuz tend to differ only in name. Smaller differences do exist (such as regional styles of dress, subtle architectural detailing, artistic forms, etc) but on the whole the Kingdoms are remarkably similar to the untutored eye. Where Kingdoms tend to differ is in the incarnations of Luuz that they choose to venerate: Some Kingdoms venerate Luuz in its entirety whilst others choose one or more favoured aspects.

However, much of Luuz remains poorly explored and there are many tales of fabulous or weird discoveries hidden within the untamed jungles of the realm. Some of the better-known tales tell of:

  • The Stairs of Nakata: Nakata was a warlike incarnation of Luuz who, having conquered and subjugated all his peers, sought to impose his will upon the sky itself. Legend tells that deep with in the jungle lies a massive hill, one side of which has been carved into massive tiers. It is believed that Nakata ordered the construction of the tiers so that he could climb the hill to better reach the sky.
  • The Library of Forbidden Things: Having escaped persecution at the hands of their brethren, the Luuzian settlers are said to have decided that they would systematically remove all reference to the dark incarnations of Luuz to ensure that the Multiverse could never again suffer at the hands of such evil. But the Luuzians are lovers of knowledge and to purposefully ‘forget’ things was abhorrent to them. They therefore decided that the knowledge, totems and dread arcanickal devices of their dark past would be hidden rather than destroyed. The Library of Forbidden Things is the name of this mythical vault.
