The lands of Barbarica are crisscrossed in many places by ancient paved roads of Dwarven manufacture. Such roads have often become the basis of trade routes, anchors for settlements built on or around them, and form an essential part of the economic infrastructure of several nations.

In addition to the above ground roads, there are also many underground tunnels both through rugged highlands and mountains as well as bellow some flatland. Such tunnels often present a much faster means of traveling through rugged terrain. Additionally, they often connect to ancient Dwarven holdfasts underground, and were used for just that purpose in antiquity by the Dwarves of the Karadakana Commonwealth.

However, many of these tunnels became infested by the ravening Daemons that laid that great nation low several thousand years ago, and remain unsafe to this day. Many such tunnel networks were sealed away behind stone and runes long ago, but after three millennia many of the seals are failing or have failed...
