Regional Politics

The Anornians are the power to watch in Norizia, as they are by far the most numerous and advanced people. However, their splintered nature combined with a disinterest in the inhospitable lands of their neighbors ensures that their is no immediate risk of large-scale war.

Raids and small-scale isolated battles are a common occurrence in all directions however, as is trade. It is a very wary but brutally honest region where two nearby tribes from different nations might barter and bargain in a chance meeting, or they might engage in bloody conflict but no one is deceptive about it either way.

As almost all the peoples of the region are warrior-dominated, prickly egos and senses of honor cannot be underestimated. Respectful ego stroking and gift-giving to a key chief or leader can go a long way. But a misspoken phrase or perceived lack of proper respect, or even just a perception of weakness can easily invite hostilities.

Small pockets of Wicta survive in the hinterlands of Anoria and in the untamed lands between Kraag in the north and the Anorian and Kymaeran lands further south. However they are a fractured remnant and only pose a threat to small outlying settlements and travelers.

Edit

Anornians

The Anornians respect the Kymarians as hardy and strong warriors and worthy adversaries, and the fiefdoms closest to Kymaria sometimes employ Kymarians as mercenaries in their occasional battles against more distant Anornian fiefdoms.

They also respect the Kraag as dangerous foes, but regard them as savages and less worthy overall due to their more primitive artifice.

Edit

Kymarians

The Kymarians as a people are entirely ambivalent about their neighbors save that they allow that both the Anornians and the Kraag are not soft and weak like the menfolk of the southern lands. Other than that, they are what they are and no more needs to be said about it. Individual Kymarians might hold whatever opinion their personal experiences have lead them to.

Edit

Kraag

The Kraag regard the Anornians as being cruel and dangerous, and see them as a constant threat to their lands and livelihood due to their endless raids into Kraagan territory.

They hold the Kymarians in a kind of superstitious light and believe them to be spiritually related to the great bears of the northlands.

Edit

Drass

The city of Drass has a small population, but their trading concerns insure that their influence is greater than their headcount would suggest. The families of Drass bring and send materials between the barbarous northern lands and the more civilized south, travel into the Anornian and Kymarian lands to do business, hire mercenary guards for caravans, and secretly use their money and influence to help keep the Anornians splintered into manageable fiefdoms.

Edit

Undarak

They live so far north in lands even the Kraag are not keen to venture into, that the Dwarves have no real impact on the region beyond being the source for an occasional curiosity of carved bone that sometimes makes its way into the hands of the Kraag and then to the markets of Drass.

Some of the tribes of the Kraag that venture that far north will sometimes encounter the Undarak and engage in trade. There have also been times when small scale hostilities have occurred between them. However, the environment is so hostile to begin with that neither man nor Dwarf is over-eager to risk battle as even a minor wound might prove to be ultimately fatal.
