EditSynopsisA dark and dreary land of dark damp forests, peat bogs, and taiga thats cold in the summer and colder in the winter, populated by a hardbitten and gloomy people of truculent disposition. Some of the nation is covered by arable farmland, especially wheat, potatoes, and beets. The southern mountains that divide the land from the Khor-da Hordelands are home to a few mines for iron and coal, and some copper.
This land is dominated by petty tyrants, landowners, lords, and heads of families. Most of them are cruel, selfish, grasping, or exhibit other unpleasant traits and are unpopular; they tend to retain personal guard units both as protection and enforcement. Light horse units are most common, and in time of war local peasant levies are usually raised.
A lot of commerce moves by means of the shallow rivers and canals that permeate the nation, primarily on slow moving flat-bottomed barges; heavy cargo is pulled along by teams of horses.
EditMagic The magic of Zlavikia is just as gloomy and dark as the weather. Wychas living in the bogs and forests practice black arts running the gamut of Necromantism, Occultism, Naturalism, and foul Alchemy.
The Atlovs have a tradition of Seers and Fortune Tellers, but many posing as such are charlatans.
EditDetails
- Exports: various grains, timber, iron, coal, alcohol, potatoes; however trade is disorganized and mostly
at a local level.
- Forms of Dress: simple peasant garb varying by the weather is most common. Almost everyone wears furs and / or fur-lined garments, cloaks, overcoats, and so forth. The wealthy wear particularly fine furs; bear and wolfskins are most prestigious.
The ruling elite collectively tend to oppress the peasantry, between high taxes and poor treatment in general.
Steppe wolves are found in the lowlands and timber wolves are found in the northwestern woods and mountains, along with bears. There is plentiful game animals to keep them from bothering humans (usually). Further, deer and bison abound seasonally, forced down from the Kraag lands in the harshest months of winter and offering a welcome source of meat to Zlavikian hunters.
EditAdventure Seeds Missing Persons: a settlement on the edge of the dark Fyrgore Forest s is looking for help; some of its residents especially children have been vanishing while in the nearby woods.
Caravans: Roving trade caravans of nomadic Atlovs recently passed through town recently; a few days later several children have gone missing and the locals insist the Atlovs kidnapped them. They are willing to pay some bold souls to track down the Atlovs and return with the missing children or baring that proof that restitution has been made.
