EditSynopsisComprised of a plethora of small tribal villages strewn across the swamps of Tropizia, the bulk of the Lazerti live in a vast bayou along the bottom edge of Tropizia collectively called the Sahokee.
While some Lazerti have migrated away from this region into other parts of Tropizia and perhaps beyond, Sahokee is widely regarded and held to be the ancestral homeland of this sentient race; and remains the highest concentration of Lazerti by far.
The Lazerti of Sahokee share a common heritage, but individual tribes often evince cultural behaviors and linguistic quirks peculiar to themselves or a particular sub-region. Generally speaking the Lazerti are a warrior / hunter based tribal society. Some tribes evince xenophobia ranging from hatred of all other sentient races to hatred for everyone not of their own tribe, while other tribes are relatively peaceful and will openly trade and associate with outsiders.
The Lazerti are effectively atheistic as a rule, in as much as they do not worship deities, have no pantheon, and lack a concept of an afterlife. However some tribes have been converted to the worship of a deity or a daemon or elemental lord; such tribes are usually considered to be strange and untrustworthy by more traditional Lazerti. Instead of the worship of gods, more "spiritual" Lazerti practice a tradition of inner enlightenment and self-empowerment, and some of them are able to accomplish superhuman feats.
Uniquely adapted and well suited to their environment, the Lazerti are very dangerous when bent on aggression within their homeland and many expeditions and encroachments have met their ends on the points of Lazerti fangs.
EditMagicThe Lazerti do not have a tradition of magic use, instead practicing the internal arts men call Mentalism and which the Lazerti call "Silisoris"
Additionally, some tribes worship one or more deities and have Ecclesiastics, but this a fairly rare occurrence.
EditDetailsOutsiders tend to use the term "Lazerti", but really this is the name of the largest and most outsider-friendly tribe who reside in and around Lazerta. A more proper and correct name would be the Sahoki; however the Lazerti lack a concept of a "race name" and refer to themselves by their tribal affiliation only. This is a continual source of confusion to people unfamiliar with their ways.
The most aggressively xenophobic tribe is the Shashoki; they reside in a large, sprawling settlement they call Shashoka on the eastern edge of the Sahokee. Highly territorial, they aggressively raid and attack any other sentient peoples that stray into their claimed territory or just have the bad luck to be located within a half-days journey from their borders.
