EditSynopsis
Once a pleasant valley county of Calamshar called Ruelarea nestled between safe mountains and hills, conquered by a well disciplined and militant Orcish horde from the Khor-da almost 25 years ago. Most humans were reduced to serfs, though a few powerful human families became collaborators and retain some wealth and influence. In the ensuing years a tremendous amount of interbreeding between the human natives and the Orcish invaders has occurred. Many positions of leadership are now held by half Orcs, including almost half of the Council of Warlords. Though conditions are tough for the oppressed human serfs, the nation is actually run fairly well by the expansionary Orcish leadership.
The standing forces of this nation are unusually large, as it is composed of the ruling military elite; fully mobilized the nation can field approximately 12,000 fully armed, trained, professional warriors. The leadership strikes a balance of keeping enough forces available in case of internal revolt, and keeping the troops busy with patrols, training exercises, scouting missions, shows of force, and so forth. The nation has slowly expanded its borders, taking over a few other neighboring valleys and outlying areas.
Outsiders are generally not trusted and while the region is not hostile to travelers who pass through quickly it is definitely inhospitable. Warriors who show respect and are passing through are generally afforded grudging professional respect as long as they keep a low profile and don't challenge the status quo. Non-warriors generally get no respect at all. Anyone attempting to foment unrest or to aid and assist the serfs is dealt with harshly.
At any given time the nation might be expanding its borders to include a nearby settlement in piecemeal fashion, offering various adventure opportunities.
EditMagic
Orcruelarea has a strong church dedicated to the worship of Gawrag, with many Ecclesiastics, who are called Gawragadar. The Orcs of Orcruelarea tolerate no other form of magic use by decree of the Gawragadar, and practitioners of other arts are chased out or persecuted.
