EditSynopsis
The Kymarians live in simple semi-nomadic tribal units, fighting both each other and neighboring peoples for the resources necessary for survival in the frigid north. A few tribes have abandoned their semi-nomadic practices either in whole or in part and founded permanent settlements which are quickly becoming the epicenters of trade within and passing through Kymaria.
An ancient people thought by some to be far-removed descendants of ancient Atlad, the people of Kymaria are as a rule imposing in their proportions. Most Kymarian striplings not yet into their twelfth summer often stand as large and tall as a full grown man of Civizia, and by the time they are full grown even a short Kymarian stands at least six and a half feet high. The largest among them loom up past eight feet and are equivalently impressive in their width and depth.
Though it is true that large men and women might be born into other groups of humans, such large specimens are usually considered exceptional, whereas such gigantism is commonplace and even expected among the Kymarians.
The Kymarians worship their own simple and dark pantheon, the so-called "Grim Gods" lead by Brom. As a by-product of their belief in gods that expressly don't care about their worshippers the Kymarians have a fatalistic, sometimes even nihilistic, world view and some Kymarians have been infamous for their cruelty and their humaneness both. Kymarians are considered to be dangerously ambiguous people to deal with and as a people have neither willing allies nor unnecessary foes.
EditMagicThe Grim Gods are reluctant patrons but there are a rare few dedicated to them that have been blessed with deific gifts, called Prezek. The majority are dedicated to Gargom.
Additionally, there is a modest tradition of magic practiced by a loose network of wise men and women, collectively called Hedgek; however Hedgek tend to be hermits that have either been cast out of their tribe or left voluntarily and live in remote dwellings instead of partaking of the normal nomadic behavior of the Kymarian tribes.
As a rule Kymarians have no liking for magic, and might react from a position of superstitious dread rather than rationality if exposed to it.
EditDetailsPhoenetically, both Kymaria and Kymaera (Kymarians / Kymaerans) are valid spellings; the locals use the later but Falcorians and Anornians tend to use the former and thus this spelling is much more prevalent in the world at large.
Some Kymarians tire of their land's mean and meager existence and depart to claim a better life for themselves elsewhere, or at least to die in a more agreeable clime.
Their physical might is not the only notable thing about Kymarians. They have a strong tendency towards dark hair, light eyes, and swarthy skin unusual to such a northerly-residing people.
