Synopsis

Under the darkest triple canopied expanses of deepest Tropizia survives a remnant of bygone times of nearly forgotten antiquity before elvenkind fell into barbarism, a loose collection of three Cruacha tribes. A critical underpinning of their culture, the one thing that binds the Cruaghar (Three Tribes) together, is the entirely false belief that they have managed to hold on to a reasonable semblance of their people's ancient heritage and a certainty that they must remain united against the Mazur (lesser races).

Lacking any form of established government or rule, the Cruaghar are instead ruled by populist strong willed firebrands who manage to foment support for violent xenophobia via appeals to the collective sense of superiority and hate / fear of other peoples.

In quiet years they are generally content to survive and attempt to prosper in their well-staked turf in the deepest tangles of the Tropizian jungle, though they react like a poked bee hive to any trespass real or imagined into areas or matters they feel a proprietary interest in. However the Cruaghar are easily and often whipped into a furor by a particularly influential pedagogue and become aggressive for weeks at a time, conducting punitive raids into non-Cruach settlements for a hundred miles around regardless of provocation or lack thereof. Thus periodic lighting-fast raids by the Cruaghar have become a fact of life for Tropizian settlements practically everywhere on the mainland.

Even in the best of times, it is extremely ill-advised for any non-Cruach to travel in or unduly near their territory.

Magic

The Cruaghar have lost their way in most things. Their faith is no different; long ago the Cruaghar fell to the worship of the Daemon Lord Darzur, the Horned One. Ecclesiastics of Darzur, called Kaefrag (Green Hunters), have been behind the mounting xenophobia, aggression, and ultimately dark spiral downward for millennia.

The most powerful Kaefrag are also crude but effective Daemonologists.

The Cruaghar tolerate no other kind of magic. However while they lack true Alchemy, the have the knowledge of several plant based poisons.

Sacrifice: someone important or wealthy was kidnapped during a very recent Cruaghar raid and carried off to be offered as a blood sacrifice to their dark god; swift and bold action to pursue the raiders and free the captive might prove to be very rewarding.
