EditSynopsisThe tribes of Adahem-sha (literal translation "the people") have been spreading across the tall grasslands for three thousand years. They are especially well adapted to the area, being very short (three to five feet tall; averaging around four feet), which allows them to hide easily in the grass while stalking their prey. The tribes are nomadic, with no permanent settlements. They have survived and thrived in area, despite the prevalence of large and vicious predators such as the dzing (huge tiger-like ambush hunters that blend into their surroundings) and large steppe-wolves.
Adahem-sha hunters use short throwing spears and occasionally employ simple hand-launcher to put more power behind their casts. The main prey of the hunters are migrating herds of large herbivores. The tribes use every part of their kill and do not hunt more than needed.
Tribal units are family oriented, each tribe consisting of ten to twenty small inter-related families. Elders are highly respected and given the first share of any kill; however the average lifespan of a healthy Adahem-sha is only 45 years.
The Adahem-sha are distrustful of outsiders, but not overly aggressive toward them. They have an intense curiosity and cannot resist learning more about strangers. Visitors to the steppe-lands are often followed constantly by near-undetectable hunters. EditMagic Tribal wisemen specialize in Alchemy. They also lead the worship of the tribes and are granted Ecclesiastic power by their gods.
Some wisemen have gained the knowledge to summon servants of Dzing-mak. Known as Dzing-gala they wear fearsome masks and are held in fearful awe; they live apart from the tribes in strange little huts built up on pillars of rock raised from the very ground by dark powers so that they stand above the grasslands and are visible from all around. Tradition holds that the land within ten spans (roughly 60 feet) of such a hut is inviolate and trespassers who enter this space have only themselves to blame if they get eaten by servants of Dzing-mak. Proper protocol is to stand outside of the ring and shout out to the Dzing-gala, approaching closer only if invited.
EditDetails The tribal wisemen have developed a curious alchemical mixture that can totally eliminate the scent of a hunter.
The Adahem-sha have no concept of marriage or exclusive mating. All members of a tribe are responsible for the rearing of children, and individual Adahem-sha pair up as they like for as long or as short a time frame as is mutually agreeable.
