This document collects prevailing philosophies that might be found across the Realms. Not all Philosophies are necessarily relevant to all Realms. Philosophies might have formal organizations composed around them, be the basis for game constructs, be nothing more than vague leanings found among some members of a given populace, or whatever works for a given ends.

  • Godless: atheists (of a sort), agnostics and deists. Evince the belief that 'gods' are what / who they are portrayed as (i.e. actual divine beings as opposed to merely very powerful entities).
  • Apotheosists: the belief that inherent in every being is the possibility of divinity.
  • Empiricists: the belief in rational analysis and what can be observed over what is supposed.
  • Entropists: believe that entropy is the goal and / or inevitable outcome of existence.
  • Fatalists: believe that death is but a transitional state between forms of existence, and that the events of 'life' are merely ephemera.
  • Materialists: believe that the only meaningful measure of existence is the accumulation of power and material things during life.
  • Intellectualists: believe that the purpose of life is to learn, gaining greater knowledge and understanding.
  • Determinists: believe that self-determination and a casting off of imposed restrictions is the purpose of existence.
  • Probists: the belief that defining and adhering to a concrete system of conduct and behavior is essential to existence.
  • Reperationists: believe that existence is validated by adhering to and maintaining moral / ethical balance, and serving justice and retribution upon those who unbalance the scales.
  • Revolutionists: believe that laws and imposed order are artificial, arbitrary, and inherently against the natural order of things.
  • Surrealists: believe that what is held to be reality is merely a dreamlike artificial and / or symbolic state and that each person has the right and ability to define their own interpreation of it.
  • Sensationists: the belief that the evidence of the senses is the only meaningful measure of existence, and that existence is enriched by experiencing as much as possible.
  • Integrationists: the belief that distinct people are all just facets of the same reality, and thus are all connected and on some level are all one being; existence can be enriched by seeking to attune with primal forces of the multi-verse.

One of the things that I thought was great in Dragonlance was that the Gods were gods of philosophies (see above) rather than things - it would be great to work this into Generica somehow! 5lippers, 2009/09/08 15:27

We've committed to the "Concerns" concept for patron powers. This list of concepts is more on the people side. However, its totally possible for some patrons to include such concepts among their Concerns if we can figure a way to make it meaningful mechanically. Killer Shrike, 2009/09/08 16:11
